The Tesco Express branch in Marylebone will close later this month.

The High Street store, which employs 36 staff, will shut its doors for good on March 12. Tesco say a rise in rent was behind its decision.

A spokesperson said: “Closing the store was a difficult decision. Due to an increase in rent we have taken the decision not to renew our lease.

"Our priority is now to look after our colleagues and wherever possible, offer them alternative jobs with Tesco.”

The store has been trading since 2003. Tesco has informed staff of its decision and will hold meetings in the coming weeks to help find alternative roles.

The spokesperson continued: “We’re very grateful to all customers who shop with us and will continue to serve them from our Marble Arch Metro and Express stores and through our online grocery shopping service.”
