Around 60 firefighters battled a blaze at a Wembley recycling centre over night after a heap of rubbish caught light.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 12) at the industrial site in Hannah Close, just off Great Central Way, and eight engines fought to bring it under control.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the cause of the fire is unknown.

Speaking from the scene, station manager Claiton Murray said: “Thankfully there are no injuries and because of the location of the fire is on an industrial estate its not near enough to roads or housing for the smoke to cause any disruption.

“Crews have worked hard to stop the fire spreading to other buildings.”

Emergency services were called at 2.14am and the LFB posted on Twitter just before 9am to say the fire was under control.

Crews are expected to remain at the scene for some time to damp down the fire.

The stack of recycling, around 50 metres by 100 metres, was said to be partly alight and firefighters from Wembley, Park Royal, Hendon and Acton stations were at the scene.
