A dog which helps a woman living with multiple sclerosis has been stolen after its owner was knocked to the ground in Shepherd’s Bush .

Lyndsay Andersson was pushed over while walking Leon, a German Spitz who will be three in May, in the early hours of Tuesday (February 14).

She watched in horror as the assailant picked up the animal and stole it.

The assistance dog has lived with the retired barrister since he was six-months-old and helps the 58-year-old live an independent life.

Miss Andersson is now appealing for the return of her cherished companion.

She said: “I’m completely devastated. I’m totally lost with out him.”

The German Spitz was stolen on Valentine's Day morning

After returning home in the early hours of Valentine’s Day, Miss Andersson decided to take Leon out at around 3.20am.

She crossed Shepherd’s Bush Green and went to a newsagents in Uxbridge Road, but as she walked out, a person wearing a black hoodie came up from behind and knocked her over, before snatching Leon.

Police were called and are investigating, but as yet the owner, who also suffers from a range of physical problems including cerebral ataxia, osteoporosis and Chrohn’s disease, is still waiting for updates.

She said: “I really rely on my dog. If I drop anything he picks it up for me because I can’t get down. He helps me around the house because I’m partially sighted.

“Soon I will be in an electronic chair and I need a dog that will be able to sit on my lap.

“Leon is everything to me, he’s my baby and I don’t go anywhere without him.

Leon's owner was knocked to the floor before the dog was swiped

“The past few days have been tough. I feel terrible. I’m not eating or sleeping, I’ve been sick.

“He’s not just a dog, he’s my best friend. He’s everything to me.”

And pleading with the person who took Leon or who now has him, she added: “I’m not angry with you. I just need him back. I want my baby home.”
