A horrified mum found a hateful message scrawled in spray paint next to a nursery in Ealing.

Francesca Bussey, a West Ealing resident, was on her way to pick her daughter up from an after-school club, when she spotted the racist graffiti in Green Man Passage, on Wednesday (May 24) evening.

Sprayed in black paint, the message 'Remove Kebab from Europe' had been written alongside drawings of small, black people being hung from a noose.

The mum said: "I was horrified and disappointed that someone would do this.

"At a time when the international mood is so volatile, and when it is so important that we are kind and tolerant and inclusive, to see this hateful message in our community is awful.

"And not only is the message disgusting, but it was done directly next to a children's nursery."

This hateful message was found in West Ealing

Francesca, who says this is the first time she'd ever seen graffiti like this, reported the offensive display to both Ealing Council and her local police.

She said: "The response was very quick - I reported it to the police on 101 and they took it very seriously and will be looking into it.

"I posted about it on social media and through that, local councillors and the council graffiti removal team were informed and this job was placed as their highest priority the next morning.

"When I want past at 9.30am this morning (Thursday, May 25) the workers were there and the offensive graffiti was already gone.

"I'm pleased it was dealt with so swiftly, but disappointed it had to be done in the first place."

"West Ealing is very mixed, with people from all over the world, and I've always been proud to live somewhere with so many cultures side by side", the resident added.

Ealing Police confirmed that once they were contacted, they immediately liaised with Ealing Council to arrange removal of the offensive material.

PS Liam Cahill, of Ealing Police, said: "The informant has made an appointment to speak with officers this evening to report the incident and make enquiries."

The local authority, Ealing Council, confirmed the sprayed slurs were scrubbed off promptly.

A council spokesperson said: “Ealing is a diverse and cohesive borough and graffiti such as this will not be tolerated.

"Fortunately incidents like this are rare and the graffiti was removed as soon as it was reported.

“Residents can report graffiti by downloading and using the Ealing24/7 app or by calling the Grimebusters hotline on 020 8825 8825.

"People who smear graffiti are committing a criminal offence and residents with information about any incidents should report it to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
