Hounslow's Out & About pocket-sized guide

Discover the jewels in Hounslow's crown in a free pocket-sized guide released as thousands of visitors are expected to pass through the borough during the Rugby World Cup.

Graced with an image of the breathtaking Great Conservatory glasshouse, at Syon, on the front cover, the new Out & About guide gives readers a taste of the sights and history including some of the hidden treasures from the edges of Heathrow Airport, in the west, to Chiswick, to the east.

The colourful 68-page handbook is being distributed across the borough for residents to rediscover their hometown, and will also be available to tourists expected to arrive for the rugby tournament in neighbouring Twickenham next month.

The book, published in the year Hounslow celebrates 50 years of being part of Greater London, allows people to learn everything from historical gems and tales of charismatic characters, to the countless festivals and ghostly going ons, as well as shopping centres and best bars and restaurants.

It includes famous faces such as Colin Firth, from Chiswick, double-gold Olympic champion Mo Farah, and the likes of Queen's late Freddie Mercury.

Many neighbourhoods in the borough are profiled in the guide designed to whet the appetite and get people to explore.

There are also tips on places to stay, things to do such as exploring green spaces such as Bedfont Park Country Lakes and sports stadiums.

Hounslow Council leader Steve Curran said: “We are very proud of Hounslow and wanted to promote some of the borough’s best kept secrets so that more people can experience them.

“Building the borough the reputation it deserves will of course mean more visitors with the increased benefits to local businesses.

“We hope the guide will help people decide what to do while they are visiting Hounslow and make sure they enjoy all the many good things we have to offer.

"And there are many suggestions in there for local residents to do too.”
