A 20-year-old man has been jailed for 14 years after being convicted of violently stabbing a man a leaving him for dead.

Mergim Krasniqi, of Crawford Street, Wembley, was found guilty on February 13 of attempted murder and perverting the course of justice.

On Tuesday (April 7), he was sentenced at Harrow Crown court to 14 years in prison.

Police were called in the early hours of September 24, 2013, to reports of a fight in Empire Way, Wembley.

The 45-year-old victim, Alfred Foster, had been involved in an altercation with Krasniqi after throwing a napkin in his face. He was chased and stabbed multiple times.

Krasniqi evaded the police for 10 days before his arrest on October 3, 2013.

During a long investigation, evidence was found which showed he was suspected of disposing the knife used in the assault.

Detective Sergeant Edward Salter said: "I am pleased that this dangerous young man, who thought nothing of arming himself with a knife, has been convicted.

"The victim was left for dead and the first aid from police officers and paramedics at the scene, and later the expertise of the surgeons, probably saved his life.

"I pay tribute to a number of local residents who came forward to testify and also to the victim and his family for their bravery."

Judge Dunne commended the officers involved in the case and said that Krasniqi was brutal and remorseless.

A second man, 24-year-old Mumin Malik, also appeared at court alongside Krasniqi and was found not guilty of attempted murder.
