The Crystal Palace footballer who feared he may never play again after suffering serious injuries in a horror crash near Heathrow is back in training.

Pape Souare broke his thigh and injured his jaw bone in an two-car collision between junctions three and four on the M4 near Cranford in September last year.

The left-back was cut free from his vehicle by firefighters before being airlifted to hospital .

Alan Pardew, the Crystal Palace manager at the time of the accident, said he expected the Senegal international to miss six months of action .

But footage posted on social media by the player himself shows he is making good progress in his recovery, though it is unlikely he will play this again season.

The video on Twitter shows him running for the first time since his accident at the Premier League club’s training centre in Beckenham on Tuesday (April 11).

He writes: “First day running” and with praying hands a runner emoticons with it.

Crystal Palace endured a woeful start to the season following Souare’s injury which saw them dragged into the relegation battle and cost Pardew his job.
