A 42-year-old man arrested in connection with a tram derailment in Croydon on November 9 has been released on police bail, as the first victim of the crash is named.

The arrested man, who is from Beckenham and charged on suspicion of manslaughter, has been bailed until May while investigations into what happened continue.

Seven people are confirmed to have died and more are in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a tram derailment in Croydon .

Dane Chinnery, 19, a Crystal Palace fan, was named as the first victim of the crash.

In a tribute written to the Croydon Advertiser paying tribute to Dane, Billie-Joe Ingrams said: "I am writing to show my respects for such a great friend of mine who has lost their life.

"Dane was the highlight of our year group in high school, there was never a dull moment nor any anger or dispute to be had with him."

The driver of the tram is alleged to have told a passenger immediately after the derailment that he thought he had blacked out at the controls.

51 people were taken to hospital during the incident on the morning of Wednesday, November 9, in which two carriages derailed.

Emergency services from across London, including officers from Ealing , assisted in the rescue effort alongside Croydon police.

British Transport Police said: "Investigations continue at the scene and officers work to establish the circumstances of the incident."
