Two huge protests have seen hundreds of protesters descend on London's streets this afternoon.

A demonstration organised by the far-right English Defence League (EDL) got underway at Hyde Park earlier on today (July 16).

Protesters met at the Piazza in Marble Arch before marching down Park Lane to Hyde Park where a rally kicked-off at 1.30pm.

Another march against austerity and racism led by The People's Assembly has also seen swarms of people hold a demonstration in Parliament Square.

A high police presence is in the area to keep demonstrators of the groups at bay.

Police have cordoned off a number of areas as part of the protest in central London.

A number of road closures will also be in place re-opening once the protests end.

Other marches are also expected to be taking place in and around Westminster including the annual Cypriot community march.

On Sunday (July 17), another march against racism will be held in response to a hate crime incident in Hammersmith.
