Early-risers out and about in central London may have thought they were still suffering the effects of a booze-soaked Christmas if they saw clapped eyes this lot.

Members of the English Civil War Society transformed into Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentarian soldiers, better known as Roundheads, to celebrate a new TV series on the Yesterday channel called Weekend Warriors which begins on Wednesday January 7.

They marched across the Millennium Bridge in front of St Paul’s Cathedral, which was used by Roundheads to as a stable for Cavalry horses during the Civil War, at 8am on Sunday (Jan 4).

The first episode of Weekend Warriors, a show which celebrates the world of battle re-enacting, will feature the English Civil War Society as they prepare to recreate the bloody 1642 Siege of Marlborough. It is thought that Cromwell stayed in Chiswick during the civil war.
