A crashed car has been left blocking a pavement in Hounslow for more than a week, forcing pedestrians onto the road.

The lack of action is putting schoolchildren's lives at risk, according to the man who took this photo of the aftermath.

Sam Dhown says the green hatchback crashed into a lamppost in The Grove, Isleworth, on the afternoon of Wednesday March 2.

The vehicle with its crumpled bonnet remained at the scene on the morning of Friday March 11 - nine days later - surrounded by police tape and plastic barriers.

Mr Dhown, who lives just yards from the scene, says schoolchildren are forced to walk on the busy road to avoid the car.

Ongoing criminal investigation

He says it is only a matter of time before a pedestrian is seriously injured but when he has tried reporting the matter to Hounslow Council he has been unable to get through to anyone.

"This is a major hazard and I can't understand why it's taking so long to move the car," he told getwestlondon.

"Children walking to school have to walk onto the busy road to get past the car, and I'm worried someone is going to be hit and killed.

"I've made various calls to the council to try to get it removed but I've never been able to get through to anyone. It's ridiculous."

A council spokesperson said: "Hounslow Highways is unable to remove the car from Grove Road at the moment, as the site is part of an ongoing criminal investigation and has been taped off by police.

"Hounslow Highways recognises that there is a potential safety hazard for pedestrians and will be installing a pedestrian walkway around the car as soon as possible."

A Met Police spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene on Wednesday March 2 at 3.20pm to reports a Ford Focus had crashed into a lamppost.

She said the male driver, who was not seriously injured, had stayed with the car, and nobody else was believed to have been involved in the collision.
