A takeaway in Hounslow has been served up with thousands of pounds in fines for illegally selling food outside of licensing hours.

Directors of Kingsley Grill, formerly known as Magic Arabic Grill, in Kingsley Road were taken to court by Hounslow council for breach of the 2003 Licensing Act.

Ali Atiyah, director of Magic Arabic Grill Ltd, and Mohamed Fadel Jasem, director of Sahara Arabic Grill Ltd, were fined and ordered to pay costs amounting to £6,500.

Both company names were registered to 119 Kingsley Road.

In 2015, council officers and police visited the takeaway five times where they saw hot food being sold as late as 3am.

However under the licence the shop should have stopped trading at 11pm.

Ignoring official warnings, both written and in person, the business continued to trade.

Both men were then brought before the court.

Jasem pleaded guilty at a previous hearing but Atiyah entered a not guilty plea before the trial took place on December 22 2016 at Uxbridge Magistrates Court.

On the day of the trial, Atiyah changed his plea to guilty.

Atiyah pleaded guilty to five separate offences and was fined £3,000, was ordered to pay £2,400 in court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Jasem pleaded guilty to one offence, was fined £400, was ordered to pay £600 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

All of the offences were Section 136 of the Licensing Act 2003

Councillor Sue Sampson, cabinet member for community protection at Hounslow Council, said: “Anyone caught trading illegally and out of licensing hours, will face the strongest possible action against them.

"There is a reason why we have these licensing rules in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, customers and businesses.

"When anyone flouts the rules, it spoils it for those who comply by them.

"We will always take the toughest action possible and we hope that a prosecution like this serves as an example and a warning.”
