A police sergeant and police constable from Kensington and Chelsea who rescued a man from a burning building were among the heroic cops in west London recognised for their lifesaving efforts.

More than half a dozen police officers from Westminster , Kensington and Chelsea, Ealing and Harrow have been presented an award from the Royal Humane Society (RHS), for their courageous acts of bravery.

An awards ceremony was held at New Scotland Yard, watched by friends and family, on Monday (May 23).

Met Police deputy commissioner Craig Mackey who handed out the awards, said: “It is with great pride that we formally recognise these acts of professionalism, courage and compassion

“Their knowledge, skills and determination have been tested to the limits in these challenging situations. Their heroic responses made the difference between life and death.

“They are all fantastic examples of the values we hold dear within the Metropolitan Police Service and I believe we should all be very grateful to them.”

PC Donna Coker of Ealing received a RHS resuscitation certificate after a man had a heart attack whilst driving

Receiving RHS resuscitation certificates:

PC Donna Coker of Ealing resuscitated a man who had suffered a heart attack behind the wheel of his car whilst he was driving;

PCs Ajay Singh and Ashley Dowse, from Kensington & Chelsea police station, for resuscitating a man who had fallen and suffered a head injury in the street;

PCs Simon Hussein and Inderpal Randhawa, from the City of Westminster, resuscitated a man who had collapsed on the tow path at Lisson Grove Canal;

PCs Sal Azam and Vicky Owens, based in Harrow, for resuscitating a woman who had suffered a cardiac arrest.

PC Alan Moore, attached to Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection, for rushing to the aid of a woman following a traffic collision in Westminster

Police Sergeant Mark Hennessy and PC Philip Bond, from Kensington and Chelsea, for rescuing a man from a burning smoke filled flat.

RHS is a charity that grants awards for acts of bravery in the saving of human life including by resuscitation.

Other awards went to former Met PC James Southern; and Detective Sergeant Christopher Gadd, attached to Specialist Crime and Operations; for separate incidents involving resuscitation following a heart attack of a member of the public.
