Motorists behind the wheels of supercars in one of west London's wealthiest areas are being reminded they face fines if they act anti-socially.

Nuisance drivers are being warned they face fines if they make the lives of people working and living in Knightsbridge a misery by engine revving, sounding horns and other "annoying" behaviour.

Following many complaints, Kensington and Chelsea Council introduced a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) last December to combat the problem.

It is enforced between midday and 6am and can see motorists banned for:

  • Revving engines
  • Repeated sudden or rapid acceleration
  • Racing
  • Leaving the engine running while parked
  • Performing stunts
  • Sounding horns
  • Playing Music
  • Using offensive language and/or intimidating behaviour towards others
  • Causing obstruction on a public highway, including driving in convoy

The warning comes ahead of what the council is describing as the start of “the noisy, antisocial supercar season”. People found breaching the PSPO can be fined between £100 and £1,000 for each offence by council officers or the police.

The PSPO boundary

Anyone who wishes to report a PSPO breach can call the council on 020 7361 3002 or email pspo@rbkc.gov.uk.

They must be willing to prepare a witness statement and provide the following information:

  • Where did the breach occur?
  • What time did the breach occur?
  • Which of the criteria from the PSPO were breached?
  • What was the make, model and colour of the vehicle?
  • What is the vehicle registration number?
  • If possible can you provide a description of the driver or passengers?
