Police and council officers seized hundreds of pounds’ worth of illegal goods from shops on Queensbury’s Streatfield Road on Thursday (February 25) as part of a day of coordinated action.

Harrow Council say that among the items seized were 360 illegal cigarettes, four bags of counterfeit phone cases and more than 100 cases of alcohol, for which no tax was believed to have been paid.

As well as the action taken against illegal trading, council officers removed three tonnes of litter that had been carelessly dropped in the area.

Representatives from the Police and Fire Service were on hand to give out free safety advice to local shoppers.

Councillor Graham Henson said, “These regular days of action bring real benefit to local people and show what can be achieved when we all work together.

“The council works hard keeping Harrow clean and safe for all and will look to prosecute those caught dumping rubbish or littering on our streets.”

The action in Queensbury took place days before Clean for the Queen, the mass community clean up to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

In Harrow it’s being marked on Friday 4 March, when attention will turn to Queensbury, together with Rayners Lane, as community groups, schools and individuals turn out in force to clean up the borough.

More information on Clean for the Queen can be found on the Harrow Council website.
