It has been described as the ‘Concorde of commuting’ and London could be the first stop if it is launched in the UK.

American research company Hyperloop One is behind the creation of a super sonic tube-based transport system which is set to revolutionise the transport network and the way we travel.

The electric Tube 2.0 transportation system uses passive magnetic levitation (Maglev) technology to power small pods, which could one day carry passengers, through a frictionless vacuum.

The pods could travel faster than the speed of sound, and make the London Underground system look obsolete.

Capable of travelling at speeds of more than 700mph and designed to depart as often as every 10 seconds, the capsule shoots through an airless ‘tube’.

An early prototype of the pioneering train, the brainchild of billionaire Elon Musk, was set to receive its first public demonstration in the Las Vegas desert on Wednesday (May 11).

'It's real, it's happening now'

Current major rail projects in the UK include HS2 and Crossrail , while major air travel projects include the decision on airport expansion in the south-east which saw Heathrow Airport address its plans in a letter to the Prime Minister to 'meet and exceed' the Davies Commission third runway expectations

Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd, said: “It’s real, it’s happening now, and we’re going to demonstrate how this company is making it happen.”

Hyperloop can be used anywhere: on land, through tunnels and underwater and is said to be the fastest, cleanest and safest way to connect the world.

Competition is rife to turn the fantasy of ultra high speed travel into a reality.

Reports suggest the Hyperloop is being considered for Los Angeles, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland, but not the British capital just yet.
