The most expensive borough to rent property in England is Kensington & Chelsea.

Figures from the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) show the average rental property price in the borough is £2,253 a month.

The figures, which were collated in the 12 months up to September 2014, also reveal the royal borough to have the highest average one-bedroom rental prices and shared accommodation prices in England.

It costs an average £953 to rent a single room in shared accommodation in Kensington and Chelsea - joint highest with City of London - and £1,842 - joint highest with Westminster - for a one-bedroom property.

A top 10 list of most expensive shared property rent in England is exclusively made up of London boroughs, and includes Westminster in third position at £850, and Hammersmith & Fulham, which came in sixth at £750.

This compared to other parts of west London, where rent for a shared property was less than half of the price - £406 in Hillingdon and £477 in Harrow.
