Results from a public consultation show more than seven-in-10 are in favour of 20mph speed limit in Hammersmith and Fulham.

The council said 71% of the 5,287 who responded supported the proposals for a reduced borough-wide speed limit on all or most of the roads.

It will now look at the findings in greater detail before deciding whether to implement the scheme.

Of the 71% in favour of lowering speed limits to 20mph , 41% said they supported the change on all the borough’s roads, with a further 26% of people also supported lowering the speed limit to 20mph on most roads, with some exemptions. Twenty-nine per cent said they opposed the plans.

H&F’s environment, transport and residents’ services supremo Wesley Harcourt said: “We’re really grateful to have such a strong response from across the borough that will help us form a decision as to whether or not to implement the scheme.”

A full breakdown of the results will be presented to and discussed by H&F Council’s Community Safety, Environment & Resident Services Policy and Accountability Committee when it meets on 18 November. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 7pm.

A report will then go to the council’s Cabinet in January for a decision on whether or not to implement any changes.
