A community group helping residents make sense of the UK's largest redevelopment is "very disappointed" to have had its proposals rejected by the Mayor's office.

The Old Oak and Park Royal site is the UK's largest regeneration project and is overseen by the Mayor of London’s development corporation, the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC.)

On September 12, the Old Oak Neighbourhood Forum group had its bid for official approval turned down by City Hall officials.

The OPDC have granted the Old Oak Neighbourhood Forum a designated area that includes 1,383 homes but the group has spoken out against a reduction in its size.

Speaking to getwestlondon Old Oak Neighbourhood Forum chair, Mark Walker, said: “It’s very disappointing that the OPDC rejected the area put forward in our application,1336 homes out of the 2108 we proposed were lost."

"Old Oak’s little communities face massive redevelopment over the next 20 years, including High Speed 2 building its Old Oak Common station here.

He added: “The area the OPDC have proposed for the forum excludes lots of small pockets of residents dotted around here.

“By leaving out residents included in our proposal you prevent them from having a say in the future of their neighbourhood.

"The corporation rejected a real opportunity to help people in these small residential areas understand the huge changes coming their way."

The Old Oak Neighbourhood area is the second community area that the OPDC has designated to residents.

The first was designated as the Harlesden Neighbourhood Area in November 2015, which includes areas around Willesden Junction and Harlesden stations.

OPDC chairman Liz Peace said: "It's important that we continue to put the local community right at the heart of the future regeneration of Old Oak and Park Royal and this decision cements our commitment to that ambition."

OPDC chief executive Victoria Hills said:"I'm delighted that OPDC has its second Neighbourhood Area.

"It's heartening that local residents are so well organised and care passionately about their community; we look forward to many continued years of collaboration."

The designation of neighbourhood areas and forums by OPDC is subject to central government guidance, which sets out a range of requirements that OPDC must consider.

The redevelopment spans more than 640 hectares and stretches across the three boroughs of Brent , Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham .

It promises to bring with it 25,500 new homes and 65,000 new jobs.
