A club has been stripped of its licence following a shooting.

Café Society, in Windsor Close, Brentford , had its licence revoked last night (Wednesday, November 11) by members of Hounslow Council 's licensing panel.

The decision came one month after a shooting in the early hours of Sunday, October 11 , close to the venue, which had been hosting a late-night party.

Latest in a string of violent crimes associated with the venue

Police, who applied for a review of the licence, said at least five bullets had been fired at a car as it sped off that night, and it is not known whether any of the occupants were injured.

They said it was the latest in a string of violent crimes associated with the venue, which they described as a known hangout for gang members, including two stabbings in the last year.

Council leader Steve Curran, who is a local Brentford ward councillor, had recommended the licence be revoked permanently due to "a history in relation to violence which is associated with the premises".

However, Café Society manager Rameshchandra Shah defended the club's record, saying there had been no violent crime inside the premises and he could not be expected to police the nearby car park, where he claims the shooting took place.

He was supported by the Jainist charity Oshwal Association of the UK West Area, which said it regularly held events for the elderly there and had never experienced any problems.

Café Society has 21 days in which to appeal against the licensing panel's ruling. It cannot carry out any licensed activities during that window.

The club was the subject of a previous review in March 2013, after a man suffered a serious head wound in a fight, believed to have been inflicted by a machete.
