The green light has been given for the demolition of Wheatstone House in Chiswick which will be replaced by a mixed-use development.

The former BT Telephone Exchange building, located at 650 Chiswick High Road, will be bulldozed to make way for 95 flats including 27 for affordable housing, as well as providing car parking and commercial space.

The application for the redevelopment of the 0.8-acre site was originally submitted in July 2013 but rejected by Hounslow Council in March last year.

An appeal was launched by Telereal Securitised Property GP Ltd and British Telecom PLC against the council's decision, under section 78 of the Town and Counry Planning Act 1990.

However, a decision was made by the Planning Inspectorate to approve the appeal and planning permission was granted on March 16 in accordance with the terms of the application dated July 31 2013, subject to certain conditions.

The scheme, by ColladoCollins Architects, will provide a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats, and is located between Chiswick and Brentford town centres and in close proximity to Kew Bridge and Chiswick Park.

The scheme is a joint venture with Telereal Trillium and construction is expected to begin later this year.

Graham Edwards, CEO at Telereal Trillium, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to regenerate this part of Chiswick High Road and offer an essential contribution of housing to the local area.

"We have a number of exciting developments under way and we are pleased to be adding this one to our portfolio.”

Savills will be marketing the site and Rapleys are the planning consultants.
