A busy stretch of the A316 in Chiswick was closed for nearly four hours on Saturday (September 17) afternoon following a ‘serious’ four car collision.
The accident happened on the eastbound carriage at around 11.20am. Photos on social media soon afterwards show the severity of the collisions.
Three people were hurt and two treated at the scene of the accident, near Chalkers Corner. A female was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
Heavy congestion was caused with lanes on both directions, meaning traffic was unable to pass over Chiswick Bridge, which stretches over the Thames to Mortlake in Richmond.
The road was finally cleared and reopened at around 3.45pm. But Transport for London (TfL) said it would take time for the gridlock to ease and for traffic on the surrounding to return to normal.
