Chelsea Bridge in Westminster is shut after a collision involving a lorry, according to police.

Emergency services are on scene attending to the crash, which involved a cyclist and a lorry.

Metropolitan Police confirmed it was called at 7.52am on Wednesday (September 27) to reports of a lorry in collision with a motorcyclist or cyclist in Chelsea Bridge Road.

36-year-old cyclist has sadly died

Tragically, the cyclist involved in this morning’s collision has died.

Metropolitan Police revealed they are investigating a “fatal collision” on Chelsea Bridge.

A spokesman for the force said:

“The cyclist, a 36-year-old woman, was taken to a west London hospital where she died later the same day.


“Her next of kin have been informed.”

Woman was in 'cardiac arrest' on way to hospital

The female cyclist involved in the collision was in ‘cardiac arrest’ whilst paramedics rushed her to hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 7.50am to Chelsea Bridge, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a cyclist and we arrived on scene within six minutes of the call coming into our control room.


“We sent a number of resources to the scene including two ambulance crews, two single responders and an incident response officer.


“London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched by car.


“The patient – a woman – was in cardiac arrest.


“Extensive efforts to resuscitate her were made at the scene and on the way to hospital.”

Police have confirmed that a lorry was in collision with a female cyclist at Chelsea Bridge.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said:

“The female cyclist was taken to a west London hospital.


“No condition update at this time.


“Local road closures are in place while emergency services deal.”

Roads still closed as police direct traffic

Police are directing traffic whilst Chelsea Bridge is fully closed.

Grosvenor Road is also closed in both direction between Vauxhall Bridge and Chelsea Embankment.

Traffic is slow moving on Chelsea Embankment eastbound with tailbacks to Battersea Bridge/Chyne Walk.

Battersea Bridge Road and Albert Bridge Road are reportedly slow moving northbound, Oakley Street southbound is slow moving from Kings Road.

Lower Sloane Street is reportedly slow moving southbound. Traffic is slow moving or stationary in and around the diversion routes.

Transport for London suggest motorists should “use other routes and expect delays”.
