Chelsea Bridge has been closed following the discovery of a suspected Second World War unexploded bomb.

Police have tweeted the river crossing and Embankment has been closed "temporarily".

Ordnance 'safely removed and disposed of'

We’ve received tis statement from the Met:

Police were called at approximately 11.39am on Monday, 21 August to reports of a suspected WWII ordnance discovered near Chelsea Bridge, near Grosvenor Road, SW1.

“Cordons and road closures were in place while specialist officers attended and assessed the device.

“The ordnance was safely removed and disposed of.”

Scotland Yard say police were called at 11.39am to reports of a suspected Second World War ordinance found near Chelsea Bridge and Grosvenor Road.

Cordons have been put in place and there are road closures in the area.

A spokesperson said: “The situation is ongoing.”
