A charity based at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington has received a £1,000 windfall from Starbucks.

The money was awarded to Children of St Mary’s Intensive Care (COSMIC) by the coffee company after it ran a campaign with community good causes website neighbourly.com.

During a three-week #NeighbourlyNoise campaign in November and December, charities were asked to make as much tweets and online mentions of the appeal on neighbourly.com and Twitter.

COSMIC scooped the money after coming fifth in the country. The charity supports the children’s intensive care unit at St Mary’s Hospital by helping patients and their families.

It helps by purchasing viral medical equipment, providing parent accommodation, supporting medical training and helping fund research into life-threatening childhood diseases.

Starbucks communications director Simon Redfern said: “Since Starbucks was founded we’ve sought to be a force for positive action in the communities we serve. Working with neighbourly.com is enabling us to provide more support where it’s needed.”
