Intrepid cyclists taking to the roads in memory of the murdered Member of Parliament Jo Cox will be stopping off in Uxbridge later this month during their 260-mile ride.

The Jo Cox Way commemorative bike ride will be setting off from the Labour politician's West Yorkshire constituency to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster .

Mrs Cox was shot and stabbed multiple times after a meeting in her constituency on June 16, aged 41.

The five-day journey sets off on Wednesday August 17 and will arrive in west London on August 20.

'Communities are stronger when working together'

Sarfraz Mian, the CEO of an equestrian company in north Yorkshire, came up with the idea.

He said: “I didn't know Jo, but I was struck by her principles and beliefs – and the fact that communities are always stronger when working together.

“Jo worked all her life to make a difference in the world and, at the time of her death, people were pitched against one another in political arguments where our sense of humanity seemed in peril.

The ride will be stopping in at community projects along the route, nominated by members of the public, to celebrate teamwork in communities.

On the penultimate day of the tour, the cyclists will stop at Brunel University in Uxbridge at the end of day four's 57-mile journey where they will spend the night.

Mr Mian added: “When Jo died, the country was united in shock and gried. It made everyone stop, think and reassess what was important.

“The Jo Cox Way is our tribute to her life, her beliefs and all the pockets of good work that go on up and down the UK.”

A 52-year-old man from West Yorkshire has been charged with Mrs Cox's murder and is due to stand trial in November.
