A fire alert has led to the closure of Charing Cross station on Friday (April 7) morning.

The busy station used by rail and tube passengers is causing severe delays to commuters on their way to work.

Transport for London has reported there are severe delays on the Northern line between Camden Town and Kennington southbound via Charing Cross.

No trains are stopping on the Bakerloo line at Charing Cross.

Commuters faced disruption on the Northern line this morning following a fire alert at Charing Cross station.

Trains did not stop on the Bakerloo line branch of the station during the incident.

Services were back up and running in an hour.

The Fire Briagde attended the incident.

Transport for London has apologised for any disruption to passengers and said the cause of the fire alert is under investigation.

Cause of fire alert under investigation

A spokeswoman for Transport for London said:

We apologise for any disruption caused to the customers.

There was a fire alert near Charing Cross.

The Fire Brigade were called to investigate and gave the all clear.

We are still investigating the cause.

Once again, apologies for any delays.”

A good service is now operating on both lines affected by the earlier fire alert, according to Transport for London.
