Police in Westminster have released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to following a stabbing in central London.

The incident occurred on Sunday August 9 at around 3am at McDonald's on The Strand in central London.

Two men, aged in their 30s, were involved in a verbal altercation with the man inside the fast food restaurant, which continued outside. The man then proceeded to attack the two friends, police said, pulling out a knife and stabbing one of the men in his hand twice.

St John's Ambulance treated both of the men at the scene, before taking them to a central London hospital. Both were discharged from hospital later that day.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged in his late teens to early 20s, with black afro hair. He was wearing a white baseball cap with a black rim, black top and green tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes down the sides and white trainers.

Detective Constable David Roberts, Westminster CID, said: "This incident happened at a busy location where there were a number of potential witnesses. I'm sure they will have been as shocked as I was viewing the footage at what took place and I'd urge anyone with information to come forward.

"Thankfully, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, but it could easily have had fatal consequences.

"Any information will be dealt with in the strictest confidence."

Anyone who can identify this man is asked to contact Westminster police CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
