Actors from the Channel 4 noughties hospital sketch show Green Wing joined protesters outside Northwick Park Hospital in Brent to show solidarity with striking junior doctors .

Actor Stephen Mangan, 47, tweeted that he would be joining the junior doctors in their protest , which clearly struck a chord with fans of the popular show as he was re-tweeted more than 2,000 times and liked by in excess of 4,000 Twitter users.

The strike lasted from 8am on Wednesday (April 6) to 8am on Friday (April 8) in protest at the new contracts being forced on junior doctors by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt .

Mangan, who played Dr Guy Secretan, was joined by co-stars Tamsin Greig, who played Caroline, Oliver Chris, who played Boyce, Pippa Haywood who played Joanna and Julian Rhind-Tutt who played Dr Macartney.

The hit series, created by the sketch comedy group behind hit TV show Smack the Pony , was filmed partly at the hospital.

Storylines revolved around the doctors and sequences were often slowed down or sped up to emphasise the body language of the characters.

This was the fourth junior doctors strike and followed the most recent one in March, which saw politicians join the picket lines .

All hospitals affected in west London said they still provided emergency care however on the next planned strike, between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday April 26 and 27, there will be a "full withdrawal of labour".

This means that the only doctors in hospitals will be consultants.
