Charity fundraisers had their car tyres slashed during an event held in memory of a friend who died of a brain tumor.

Parishioners of St Mary The Virgin Church, in Church Hill, Harefield, had organised the 'indulgence evening' to raise money for the church and The Brain Tumor Charity.

But during the event, held at St Mary's Church Hall, in High Street, on Friday (May 15), at least seven cars in the venue's car park had their tyres slashed some time after 6pm.

The 'Girls' Night Out' event had been particularly poignant as it was held, in part, to honour Caron Mitchell, who had organised many previous fundraisers for the church, before she died in March, aged 54.

Sandra Mitchell, who had been one of Caron's closest friends and is chair of the church's social and fundraising committee, said: "It was sad because it was a memorial to our friend, so it just put a dampener on the evening."

The event's organiser, Louise Blinn, from Harefield, added: “It was a really big deal for us to do this, as Caron always organised this event, and it was ruined.

“It was a despicable, detestable thing to do and I hope karma gets them back for this.

“For me, it ruined the evening and I feel deeply responsible as I put it all together.”

The fundraiser, which ran from 6pm to 10pm, featured various therapy and pampering treatments, from reiki and reflexology to pedicures and waxing.

Those taking part raised £175 for the charity and £420 for the church – Harefield's oldest building – to put towards restoring its historic tower.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to catch the perpetrator.

Anyone with information should call 101.

To donate towards the therapists' expenses, send cash or cheques, payable to St Mary's Social Fund, to St Mary's Parish Office, 28 Countess Close, Harefield, UB9 6DL, in an envelope marked 'Indulgence Evening'.
