This was the unusual place in which a car was parked outside an Ickenham pub, after it smashed through bollards and a sign.

The silver Ford Focus was wedged outside Wetherspoon pub, The Tichenham Inn, for hours until a recovery vehicle arrived on Wednesday (February 10).

The damaged vehicle caused a stir as passers-by spotted the broken pub furniture surrounding it, in Swakeleys Road.

Kelly Rayner, team leader at The Tichenham Inn, was outside when she saw the car performing a three-point turn near the parade of shops, but it hit another parked car, causing her "run away" in fear.

She said: "I was outside [neighbouring bakery] Wenzel's, saw what happened and ran. It was horrible."

Bakers at Wenzel's, on the shop parade, say they heard an alarming "bang" as they served customers.

In the car's wake were a crushed 'public footpath' sign and smashed furniture outside the front of the pub.

Ms Rayner continued: "The car was revving the whole time. When the driver got out the car was still revving.

"Police were there with him for two hours and the paramedics have seen him too. It's lucky it wasn't a lot worse."

Passers-by helped the shaken-up elderly male driver from the vehicle.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.15am to reports of two cars in collision.

"There was one car in collision with a stationary vehicle. There were no injuries."
