People have called for more reassurance from police following separate stabbings in Hanworth and Bedfont.

The shocking incidents, which happened within days of each other and just a few miles apart, in the borough of Hounslow, have sparked worry among residents and businesses.

Getwestlondon spoke to a number of people regarding their concerns in light of the stabbings.

Marie Robinson, local resident and member of Bethany Church, in Staines Road, where one of the incident happened, said: "Speaking to church members, and as a mum, it is a worry.

"Generally the concern is that it's too close to home.

"As a church, we are putting on a prayer for the local area and for the youth.

"The evenings can be quite frightful in Bedfont anyway. Grove Village always has crowds of lads and young girls - it can be intimidating.

"I think the police presence could be stepped up a lot all over Bedfont.

"I haven't seen a lot of that locally apart from the day after the incident.

"The police presence and the community have got to pull together - people need to watch out for each other."

Jin Jhooti, chair of Orchard Residents' Bedfont Association (ORBA), said he has spoken to many local residents and is advising them of police investigation procedures.

Mr Jhooti added: "People are asking questions about what happened but I also understand the information comes from police and they have to investigate before giving out too much information.

"The information they have given has been excellent (and to the point)."

'Shocking'

He added: "I have noticed there has been a lot of police presence in the area.

"I advise people, they [the police] have a crime [to deal with] and to give out too much information can only help the suspect.

"I think police visibility is always good and there is visibility, however it is a short-term solution."

Noveen Philips, Southville community and children's centre manger in Bedfont, said: "This is quite shocking for people - it's a quiet little place.

"People are feeling uneasy.

"They don't know anything and they would rather the police reassure them."

Bedfont Cafe owner, Mahmut Coban, who has been running his business in Staines Road for 10 years, said people have been talking about it when they come in.

"You cannot stop this kind of crime, it is happening so much everywhere in London, added Mr Coban.

"We need more police on the street during the day and the night as it is security for the public.

"At the moment we do not feel safe enough.

"Police should be doing anything they can to help make the community feel safe."
