Proposed changes to bus routes in Hounslow could cut off passengers in some areas, it has been warned.

Transport chiefs are considering altering five routes through the borough, primarily to improve links to West Middlesex Hospital, in Isleworth, to meet an anticipated increase in patients.

But one of those routes, the H28, would no longer serve the hospital if the changes go ahead and would also miss out several other roads.

Osterley & Spring Grove ward councillor Tony Louki organised a meeting on Wednesday (December 9) attended by 30 people he said were all opposed to changing the H28 route.

"The route may wend but it gets people where they want to go, including West Middlesex Hospital," he said.

"A lot of older folk in this area use the H28 to get to the hospital or doctor's appointments, and it also connects with other routes. I don't feel the proposal to change the route, as it stands, is good enough."

Mr Louki added that he was concerned the impetus for the change had been the bus company Abellio, which was concerned about delays at the level crossing in Wood Lane, rather than from passengers themselves.

Under the proposals, the H28 would run from Bulls Bridge Tesco to Hounslow East tube station as at present but would then take a more direct route to Syon Lane train station, missing out the hospital and several roads between.

It would also continue to Brentford County Court, rather than terminating at Osterley Tesco.

Changes are also proposed to the E8, 110 and 481, and the 635 school bus are the other routes which would change, under the proposals.

Transport for London claims the alterations would increase capacity on routes serving West Mid and Hounslow and Brentford town centres, as well as improving links to Ealing Broadway, West Ealing and Hanwell stations in time for the launch of Crossrail there in 2019.
