A burst water main has caused flooding on a stretch of road in Ickenham .

Motorists are being warned of queuing traffic in the area after Breakspear Road South has been closed.

The burst water main at the junction of Swakeleys Road is causing congestion all the way to Tile Kiln Lane in Ruislip .

Hillingdon police have urged people to avoid Copthall Road West and side roads leading towards Breakspear Road South.

The incident is believed to have started at around 6am on Wednesday (January 4).

Workmen are at the scene dealing with the flooding.

Avoid area- road closed until 7pm

Here is the latest info from Affinity: “Our repair team are on site and the work to fix the damaged water main is still under way.

“We anticipate the work should be completed by approximately 7pm.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.

“All customers affected by the burst will continue to have a water supply, however this may be at a lower pressure than normal until the repair has been completed.

“We will update this message again after 7pm.”

Dozens of calls

Many residents woke up to no water this morning after the burst water main on the busy Breakspear Road South in Ickenham today.

Affinity Water received 25 calls from customers who reported “an interruption” to their water supply soon after the burst.

Technicians have been down at the site since 6.30am and repairs are expected to take until the end of today.

The road will continue to remain closed while these important repairs are dealt with.


An Affinity Water spokesperson said: “We received 25 calls from customers who reported an interruption to their supply soon after the burst occurred, however water was restored by 8.15am.


“The road is currently closed to ensure the safety of commuters and our technicians working to repair the main.

“The repair to the water main should be complete by the end of today and we are currently assessing the damage caused to the road before restoration begins.”

What's happened so far

At around 6am this morning there were reports of a burst water main on Breakspear Road South in Ickenham.

This led to severe flooding in the area causing chaos for motorists travelling during the morning rush hour.

Residents were left with little or no water as the mains were shut down and water diverted from other areas in order to restore supply during the repairs.

Workmen from Affinity Water have been down at the road side for several hours while they attempt to fix the problem.

Parts of Breakspear Road South remain closed while these works are carried out.

Repairs continue into the afternoon

Affinity Water have provided an update on the current situation in Ickenham.

Teams continue to fix the damage to the water main and as yet there is no clear indication when this will be complete.

Residents will continue to have water restored to their homes while the repairs take place.

Road closure remains in place for safety reasons.

A statement on the website said: “Our repair team are on site and work to fix the damaged water main is still underway. All customers that were affected by the burst will continue to have water restored at their properties throughout the repair.

“For us to safely carry out the repair we have a road closure in place until the repair is complete and the area made safe for use again.

“We will provide an update and estimate on when this work should be completed as soon as one becomes available.”

Affinity Water - Update

An update from Affinity Water:

“We have successfully isolated the burst water main and diverted water from other areas in order to restore your supply during this repair.

“We anticipate that all customers affected by this burst will now have water restored to the property however this may be at a lower pressure than normal until the repair is complete.

“We will provide an update and estimate on when this work should be completed as soon as one becomes available.

“We are sorry for the disruption to your supply and thank you for your patience.”

The water supply has been shut off and residents are being urged NOT TO USE any electrical appliances that require water including washing machines and dishwashers.
