A burglar who targeted businesses in Cowley has been jailed and handed a Criminal Behaviour Order – after police caught him stealing a pushbike.

Billy Brazil was sentenced to one year in prison for two counts of burglary and the theft of a pedal cycle at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (April 14).

He was caught after police saw him stealing a bicycle in High Street, Yiewsley, on January 28.

Uniformed response team officers gave chase and arrested him in a nearby car park.

Brazil, 36, of Lily Drive, West Drayton, was subsequently charged with committing two separate burglaries at business premises in Iver Lane, Hillingdon, on November 6 and 18 last year.

In addition to his jail sentence, Brazil was ordered to pay £80 costs and was handed a three-year criminal behaviour order, prohibiting him from: consuming alcohol in any public place unless a licensed premises; possessing any form of opened alcoholic vessel unless in a licensed premises; associating in a public place in England or Wales with a named individual; and entering Berberis Walk, in West Drayton, including any premises, garden, pavement or the alleyway between Berberis Walk and Laurel Lane.

Hillingdon Borough Commander Nick Downing said: "This is a fantastic result for the victims and wider community who have been affected by Brazil's actions.

"This case demonstrates how burglary and antisocial behaviour teams work in tandem and use every tactic and resource available to protect our communities and keep our neighbourhoods crime free.

"By securing and presenting the best evidence before the courts, a strong and lengthy criminal behaviour order has been served against Brazil, in addition to a year-long jail term, further protecting the residents and areas he blighted.

"Our policing team is resolute and relentless in the pursuit of criminals like Brazil and our commitment to making Hillingdon the most hostile environment for burglars and the wider criminal fraternity has never been stronger."
