Masses of students descended upon Uxbridge town centre to devote time to helping the community with good deeds.

A total of 145 students from Brunel University and Uxbridge College took part in the third annual Good Deed Day, on Tuesday (February 9).

The event started in 2013, as a day of mass volunteering where students performed a variety of good deeds in Uxbridge town centre.

The theme for 2016 was ’50 Good Deeds in the local community’ to coincide with the 50 Anniversary celebrations this year of Brunel University and Uxbridge College.

Crowds of spectators enjoyed vibrant and energetic dance displays from both Uxbridge College dancers and Brunel Dance Society, marvelled at the acts of the Brunel Circus Skills Society and took time to relax with a manicure offered by Uxbridge College Beauty students.

Exactly 50 Good Deed activities were on offer throughout the day and included free tea, coffee and cakes, healthy heart and wellbeing checks, an exercise class and board games.

There was also a 'Digi Drop in' at Uxbridge Library, lunch served at Dovetail Community Outreach, activities at Whitehall Junior School, bag packing in local supermarkets, litter picking, face painting and fundraising for the Mayor of Hillingdon’s charities.

Appreciation for people of Hillingdon

Professor Dany Nobus, pro-vice-chancellor for external affairs, said "Now in its third year, the annual Good Deeds Day at the Uxbridge Pavillions brings together volunteers from Brunel University London, local schools and various charitable organisations to celebrate essential community values such as mutual support, human kindness and positive regard.

“It is a terrific way for us to show how much we appreciate the people of Hillingdon , and since it's also our 50th anniversary this year we will do whatever we can to ensure that the local community can share in our celebratory spirit.”

Events such as Good Deed Day are extremely important to the university as it helps to promote and encourage student volunteering in Hillingdon, raise awareness of the positive impact that students have in the local community and develop important community relationships.

This event was organised by Brunel University, Uxbridge College, The Pavilions , and Uxbridge Forward .
