Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a recycling plant in Brentford this afternoon (January 2).

London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called to Transport Avenue where a recycling plant is currently alight.

Firefighters are using eight pumps to deal with the blaze.

Footage has emerged on social media showing smoke billowing from the plant.

The name of the plant is not known at this stage.

Fire now 'under control'

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the fire is now under control.

A spokesman said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a recycling centre on Transport Avenue in Brentford this afternoon.

“Around 75 tonnes of recyclable waste were involved.

“In its early stages smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles around and the Brigade’s 999 control officers took over 70 emergency calls to the incident. “Local residents were also advised to keep windows closed as a precaution.”

LFB added that firefighters will remain at the scene for “some time” damping down.

Crews from Chiswick, Heston, Ealing, Southall, Twickenham and Feltham fire stations are at the scene.

The fire was under control at 3.11pm.

However they added they are likely to be at the site throughout the day.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) station manager, Jerome Kumedzina, who is at the scene, said: “Crews are working hard to get the fire under control.

“This is likely to be a protracted incident though and we would advise people living and working nearby to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution because of the smoke.”

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”

There is severe traffic on the M4 in both directions between Heston Services and Junction 2, A4, according to the BBC.

It comes after the National Police Air Service urged motorists to be careful as many were slowing to look at the smoke.

Footage has emerged online, posted by motorists, showing the smoke billowing from the recycling plant.

It is not yet known what the name of the plant is, but London Fire Brigade (LFB) said 60 firefighters are tackling the blaze.
