Armed officers were involved in a seven hour siege in Cricklewood after a man was believed to have a gun in his house and refused to come outside.

Policed attended the Sylvan Grove property at 11.50pm on Monday (December 5) to make arrest enquiries, where they saw a man through the window who they believed had a handgun in his possession.

The man refused to co-operate with police and a specialist negotiator and stayed inside the property.

Police officers, including a specialist negotiator, attended the property and roads were closed in the Brent area as the incident continued throughout the night.

At around 6.50am on Tuesday (December 6), armed officers entered the property and arrested the man, recovering the handgun.

One woman believed to be in her 40s and two teenage girls were in the property, all of whom were not injured during the incident.

Borough commander for Brent, chief superintendent Mick Gallagher, said: "Officers acted professionally in what was a difficult situation that thankfully ended in a safe resolution with no one harmed.

"Police would like thank the local community for their co-operation throughout the operation."

The 31-year-old man was arrested for recall to prison and possession of a firearm.

Relating to a separate incident, he was also arrested on suspicion of rape and threats to kill.

He remains in custody at a north London police station.
