The northern part of Hatch End, in Harrow, is one of the brainiest areas of England, according to government data.

GCSE results figures for the 2013-14 academic year show that 88.89% of the kids who lived there achieved five A*-C grades in their exams, including English and maths.

This is the 19th largest proportion for any of the 6,700 similar areas in England and officially makes the area one of the brainiest parts of the country.

No other parts of west London were included in the list of the 50 brainiest areas, by this measure.

The national average for children achieving five GCSEs at A*-C, including English and maths, was 56.7%.

At the other end of the scale, the worst performing area of England was the east side of Sheerness, in Swale, where just 13.1% of students achieved these grades.
