Westminster is known for lots of very important things. Like Parliament and historic landmarks. And now we can add pants to the list.

That’s because the burning question of which borough is the underwear-making capital of the country has been answered and - you’ve guessed it - it’s Westminster .

Figures obtained exclusively by getwestlondon show there are no fewer than 15 pants makers in the area.

While no one can move Leicester from the top of the current football Premier League table, Westminster knocks it into second place in the list for underwear-making with 14 manufacturers, with Barnet in third with 12 manufacturers.

And there’s more. It means there are 6.4 pants-makers for every 100,000 people in Westminster - the second highest rate in the UK behind the City of London. So there is no excuse for west Londoners not be wearing clean undies.

There is one underwear maker per 15,625 people in Westminster

Across the whole capital there are just 1.6 manufacturers per 100,000 people.

In total there are 27 underwear manufacturers in west London boroughs, including three in Kensington and Chelsea and three in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Of the 15 manufacturers in Westminster, 13 specialise in making women’s underwear.

Other areas in west London making pants are Harrow, Brent, Hounslow and Ealing.

The information comes following analysis of data from Companies House. Across the UK as a whole there were 294 underwear manufacturing companies. Of these companies 225 specialised in women’s underwear, 47 in men’s underwear while the remaining 22 companies made pants for both sexes.

London has the highest rate of underwear manufacturers for any region of the UK with 1.6 for every 100,000 people followed by the East Midlands in second.
