A restaurant was evacuated and three people treated for injuries after an envelope with a "white powder" was delivered to the business.

The Metropolitan Police was called to Stoney Street in Borough Market at 1.38pm on Thursday August 10.

Paul Dawson, a local businessman, said he arrived at the Feng Sushi restaurant just after the police.

He told the Press Association: “There were two uniformed police in there.

“The manager was flustered and said ‘sorry, we’ve had something quite bad happen, we have to close.'"

“Plain-clothes police officers, ambulance and fire services then arrived at the scene," Mr Dawson added.

“A community warden then told me that a white powder had been received.

“I asked him for where he heard that and he couldn’t say.

“Police on the scene didn’t confirm anything.

"And Borough Market security said ‘some kind of corrosive material attack or incident.

“That’s it. Life carried on as normal in the market which is on its second busiest day of the week.”

The incident comes two months after London Borough Market reopened following a terror attack.

The police confirmed they were called to reports of an "unidentified substance" being delivered in an envelope to a business in Stoney Street.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “The property has been evacuated as a precaution.

“Three people have been treated for minor injuries.

“A crime scene is in place.

“No arrests have been made.

“Enquiries continue.

“At this early stage this is not being treated as a terror related incident.”

Police later confirmed: "The substance has now been identified as a naturally occurring substance."

London Ambulance Service said three people were treated at the scene and "no one was taken to hospital".

No arrests have been made.
