We are just hours away from finding out the X Factor 2016 finalists.

Following Saturday (December 3) night's performances, Saaro Alto shot up to be favourite to win the competition after her dazzling rendition of Sia's Chandelier.

But Christmas week sparked claims of a 'boring' show after Honey G's exit as viewers took to social media to express the lack of entertainment.

It started with Matt Terry's opening performance of Silent Night on the ITV programme which was compared by Simon Cowell to a bad sandwich followed by his act Emily Middlemass branded 'boring'.

@zoe_bearx tweeted: X Factor is so boring without honey g."

Others tweeted to 'Bring back Honey G'.

While others said the show was nothing without the rapper.

As the semi-final weekend draws to a close on Sunday (December 4) night, the X Factor charity single appeal film will be aired on the ITV show this evening.

This year's song, which the show remains tight-lipped about, is raising funds for children's charities Together for Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase.

The video clip in tonight's show will star the story of 12-year-old Ruby from Epsom who is supported by Shooting Star Chase.

She suffers from a number of conditions including paralysis of the stomach, bowel dismobility, hypoglycaemia and others which means she is on various medications.

Simon Cowell said: “Once again, I am thrilled that the proceeds from The X Factor 2016 charity single will be going to Shooting Star Chase and Together for Short Lives.

"The main reason for doing this is that these charities help families and kids through incredibly difficult times.

"As always, we hugely appreciate the incredible support from the public.”

The single itself will be performed for the first time on stage live at the X Factor final at Wembley Arena next Sunday (December 11).

It will be available to download and stream straight after the winner is crowned.

Profits from the sale of each download will be split equally between the charities.
