Charity funds were generated by customers and guests at two Hillingdon branches of a High Street bank.

The Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Catherine Dann, was the first to cycle one mile as part of a sponsored static bike challenge situated in the hall of Barclays in High Street, Uxbridge, as part of a community day where local businesses, the police, and Citizen’s Advice Bureau had set up pop-up stands to entertain visitors.

Last Tuesday’s event, featuring a raffle and a cake stall, was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Premier manager Rupinder Dhaddey, who organised the day, said: “It was amazing how much we had managed to pack into the day and the wonderful response from customers and visitors to the branch.

“I am delighted that we will be able to present to Macmillan £2000, which includes matching from Barclays.”

Colleagues elsewhere in the business held a coffee morning on Friday and Saturday similarly attended by the mayor on the second day.

Hot drinks were sipped and cakes munched at the Barclays branch in Station Road, Hayes.

Community banker Deepal Dmello, who organised the day along with her manager Granville Baveystock, said: “We are extremely grateful to our customers who supported our fundraising and allowed us to handover £2000 - including Barclays matching - to Macmillan.”
