A shoplifter who racked up more than 50 convictions has become the second person to be banned from Hounslow town centre under new powers.

Pedro Carlitos' lengthy rap sheet is mostly for shoplifting but also includes drugs offences, according to police.

He was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court last Friday (March 27), following his latest conviction for two counts of theft from Debenhams, at the Treaty Centre, in Hounslow, for which he received a 16-week prison sentence.

The order prohibits the 30-year-old, of no fixed abode, from entering Hounslow town centre at any point over the next three years. Should he be seen there he faces arrest, prosecution and possible imprisonment.

He is the second person in the borough to be slapped with one of the new banning orders, which were brought in last October to replace ASBOs.

Cherie Goodall, from Feltham, was also banned from the town centre for three years last month after picking up more than 40 convictions, mostly for shoplifting, over the past decade.

Acting Sergeant Dan Cooper, of Hounslow Neighbourhood Policing Teams, said: "This order has been imposed by the court in order to protect our community from crime and antisocial behaviour.

"It is important the public work with police.

"I am asking people to call us by phoning 999 if they see the order being breached. We want to work with people, but when faced with persistent criminality we will take measures to keep the public safe and free from crime."
