Heavy rain has been forecast for London and the South East of England, bringing a brief halt to the scorching sunshine that has has the capital basting this week.

The threat has prompted a "yellow" warning from the Met Office, which says a band of heavy rain is likely to spread northward through Sunday (May 28) into Monday (May 29), with some locally torrential downpours and thunder possible.

The Met Office said: “There are early indications that this could result in some disruption, with sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses possible. Please monitor forecasts through this weekend.”

The yellow warning runs for 24 hours starting at midday on Sunday.

But the good news is it’s turning drier and brighter on Tuesday (May 30).
