Bank holiday: Rail services disrupted as engineering works take place

Major engineering work is taking place over the bank holiday weekend which is affecting some services in and out of London

The sun is out an it is bank holiday weekend, the perfect opportunity for a weekend getaway.

Before you set off on your travels , whether near, or far, you may want to check your journey, as major engineering work is taking place over the bank holiday weekend from May 27 to May 29.

Whilst some train companies are relatively unaffected by the works, others have reduced services.

If you are planning to travel inside London, here is all the information you need.

Check before you travel this weekend

London Overground

On Saturday (May 27) there will be no service between Shepherd's Bush and Willesden Junction.

There will be no service between Highbury & Islington and Stratford on Sunday (May 28).

Customers are advised to use services between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction, completing journeys using replacement buses.

On Monday (May 29), there will be no service between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt, Romford and Upminster and Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction.

TfL Rail

There will be no services between London Liverpool Street and Stratford on Saturday, those travelling are advised to use the Central line.

Trains will run around every 10 minutes on the rest of the line.

On Sunday, buses will be in operation between Stratford and Romford and between Newbury Park and Shenfield via Chadwell Heath.

On Monday, a Saturday service will be in operation.

Some services will be affected by engineering works

Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect

Holiday-makers, you will be happy to hear, both services are running as normal.

Gatwick Express

There will be a normal service on Saturday, with a half hourly service on both Sunday and Monday.

Travelling further afield?

Virgin

During the whole bank holiday weekend, major improvement works are taking place along the West Coast Mainline, which will affect all services both in and out of London Euston.

Expect longer journey times alongside a reduced and limited service.

London Midland

On Sunday, there will be an amended service both to and from London Euston.

The amended service will continue until midday on Monday.

    South West Trains

    A Saturday service will be in operation, subject to engineering work, which affects certain areas of the line outside of west London.
