Hundreds of balloons were released in Hammersmith by a domestic abuse charity.

The Advance charity also used the One-in-Four balloon launch at Lyric Square to mark the number of people affected by the crime.

It took place on Monday (December 7), and comes after International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, which was held on November 25 and followed by 16 days of activism.

To mark the activism days, which end on December 10, Advance has been raising awareness about violence against women and girls online, within its own services and out in the local community.

The balloon launched paid tribute to the one in four people who are victims of domestic abuse, with three orange balloons released for every white one.

Advance’s chief executive Anna Smith said: “Despite our best efforts, two women a week are still murdered every week at the hands of their partner or former partner.

"We really want this to end and it won’t until we have raised awareness in all communities about this horrific statistic.”

Advance supports women who have experienced domestic violence and women who have committed crime in the Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster boroughs.
