A baggage handler is among five charged with conspiring to import cocaine and cannabis after an investigation into smuggling at Heathrow Airport.

The five charged were among 11 people arrested in a series of raids across London and the south east on Wednesday (December 14).

They are due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates on Friday (December 16).

Brendan Foreman, NCA regional head of investigations, said: "The security and integrity of the UK border is vital in terms of public confidence and safety.

Those arrested are being investigated for allegedly being involved in drugs smuggling at Heathrow Airport


"The NCA and our partners in both the public and private sectors remain determined to target and stop those who would seek to circumvent border controls for criminal purposes."

Joysen Jhurry, Grange Gardens, Surrey, Preetam Mungrah, of Woodville Road, Thornton Heath, Damion Goodhall of Singleton Close, Tooting, Wilfred Owusu, of Morris Blitz Court, Stoke Newington and Aziz Abdul of no fixed abode were charged.

The remaining six, five men aged 26, 40, 51, 54 and 60 and a woman aged 24, have been bailed pending further enquiries.
