Two men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, following a blast in Heston on Tuesday morning (February 17).

The men, both aged 29, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the production of a controlled drug.

One suffered serious burns in the explosion which sent flames tearing through a garden shed in Springwell Road, on the corner of Ash Grove.

Police said he was treated at a central London hospital, while the other man was being held at a west London police station.

A force spokesman said officers had been called to the scene of the fire in the single-storey outbuilding, at 5.30am, but it is understood the explosion itself happened around an hour earlier.

The majority of people in the street said they had not heard anything, but expressed surprise at the nature of the arrests.

The London Fire Brigade said it was not called until 6.18am, and that the fire had been extinguished when the crew from Feltham fire station arrived. The London Ambulance Service said it had not been called to the scene.

Police said enquiries were ongoing.
