An apartment block which was under construction in Hounslow went up in flames on Saturday (September 3) morning.

Around 60 firefighters took more than three hours to bring the blaze in New Heston Road, Heston , under control.

The London Fire Brigade was called to the four-storey building close to Heston Library shortly after 1am as flames engulfed around half of the top floor and roof.

They had the fire under control by 4.20am but remained at the scene damping down the property for some time. The road was closed until around 9am.

The brigade said there were no reports of anyone being injured, and the cause of fire is under investigation.

It sent eight fire engines an an aerial ladder platform from fire stations including Heston, Southall, Feltham and Ealing.

A number of flats are being built in New Heston Road, beside Heston Village Hall, for Hounslow Council. It is not known at this stage whether the building affected was part of that development.

Those flats were among 220 new homes which were approved as part of a deal to build the new Heston Pools and Fitness leisure centre , which opened at the beginning of the year.

A fire in the same road claimed the lives of two people in 2013 , including a woman who died leaping from a second-floor window.
